Introduction

Patriot or Loyalist?  New freedoms or old ways?  What would you fight for?  As British subjects, leaving their homeland a centurty earlier to escape persecution of who they really were, they were feeling threatened once again.  Establishing their own way of life seperate from England, many colonists resisted the use of force imposed by England in the ways of taxes and proclaimations that tried to control Britians colonies.  What will happen next?  The colonies thought they would do what they thought best, declare independence from England so they can rule themselves as they thought best.  And a new nation is born.

As we go though this unit, we will learn about certain documents and the meanings behind them, events and "acts" that led up to the Revolutionary War, battles fought during the war, and the prominent people that helped shape the new nation that was fighting a war with a country on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean.
